I love the reflection you have done on this topic. So many people trying to prove themselves and be seem, instead of understanding that personal style comes from in>out 💅🏻✨

Juxtaposition styling is my favourite because I can't simply just stick to one aesthetic! Wish more people would do it properly.

Intention in performance is key!!! Difference for difference sake is a mess.

I so agree!!! love when people wear what they want but if there’s nothing underlying the intentional carnage other than wanting to imitate a TikTok you saw, it doesn’t feel fun. idk if you remember the trend of ‘how to dress like a gucci model’ ages ago that was all about layering patterns and so just showed that if you follow a formula it can go so wrong

Loved this piece! I agree with a lot of what you have to say, about those who use juxtaposition for the sake of it to give an affect personal style. Uniqueness for uniqueness sake to stand out without any real thought, and often times not even unique because it’s a blatant copy from Pinterest.

In the examples though, the line between ‘too much’ and ‘OK’ that you drew was very subjective. I love londongirlinnyc’s look and think it extremely authentic to her and makes functional sense within the context of her personal lifestyle. (I am definitely biased as a long-time follower of hers) Meanwhile I’ve seen the adidas pants + feminine blouse a ton of times and find that combo derivative…. Maybe our perceptions of others’ intent can actually mean more than their individual performance…. It’s pretty cool how we can have the same thought process but very different conclusions!

Fashion, taste and interests are always subjective. Especially for my essay writing as it’s highly opinionated and highly talking from my point of view which most of the time focuses on why I like or dislike something.

If it works for that person and if they’re happy with it then I think that is great. Writing opinion pieces, especially on any topic is going to be biased and subjective because I’m writing from my voice writing from what my personal tastes are.

I think her outfit is definitely visually intriguing however personally not my taste, I personally don’t see where an outfit like this can be worn :3 it’s great since you are a long time viewer of her content to know that this aligns with her personal style and it’s great if it does! It’s good to know that she has a platform and still keeps her personal style so prevalent in her content!

Totally, I think that’s the essence of fashion itself! I really loved how we had extremely similar opinions and different manifestations of those, it reminds me of how a trend can be interpreted so differently across time and cultures, all based in individual taste and life experiences. So cool to see
